{Day 11} Eternity-Minded Parents - Colossians 3:2

Colossians 3:2

Set your minds on things that are above,
not on things that are on earth.

So often in the parenting of our children, we are focused on the here and now, rather than the eternal forever.

I love Colossians 3:2. It regularly serves as a reminder for me to stop fretting and start talking to and trusting God in my circumstances. But it also spurs me on to be heavenly-focused in my dealings with my kids.

To help them see the world and their lives through the lens of eternity.

It may seem to take an eternity to raise children; but what it really takes is eternity-minded parents.

We encourage our children in this direction by not only by being eternally-minded ourselves, but by talking, teaching, and showing them how this looks.

Kids can't generally do for themselves, that which they haven't been taught.

If you want your kids to grow up loving God, accepting salvation, and reading His Word? Then it would be a good idea for you to do this yourself.

In the same way, if we don't want our children to emulate the things they see in us, then it would be a good idea to seek help in those areas.

Because they will emulate.

Parenting is a humbling and daunting task without the hope of eternity. Nearly everything is a daunting task without the hope of eternity.

Our children will not forever be under our wings. Even now, they make their own decisions. While we can't make decisions for them, we can make them want hope. See hope.

Accept hope.

So, pass along some hope today, Mom and Dad. Someday, your kids may be eternally grateful.
